PURPOSE: To enhance transfer efficiency and reduce thermal energy impressed on a thermal head, by a method wherein a surface layer of a resin having a specified glass transition point and dyeable with a sublimable dye is provided at the surface of a photographic printing paper.
CONSTITUTION: A treating liquid consisting of a 10wt% solution of a polyester resin having a glass transition point of 5W30°C in methyl ethyl ketone is applied to the surface of a wood free paper having a basis weight of 170g/m2, in a quantity of 2g/m2, and is dried to produce a photographic printing paper for an intermediate medium. Separately, a magenta ink consisting of 6pts.wt. of a sublimable anthraquinone disperse dye, 6pts.wt. of ethyl cellulose and 88pts.wt. of an isopropyl alcohol solvent is applied to a condenser paper so as to obtain a coating amount after drying of 3g/m2, thereby producing an ink ribbon. The ink ribbon 2 is laid on the printing paper 3, and the laminate is selectively heated from the back side of the ink ribbon by a thermal head 4 to transfer a desired image 5 onto the printing paper 3.
