PURPOSE: To burn in a pattern image such as a character, etc., on a whitish background part and to have the pattern image clearly viewed.
CONSTITUTION: Respective burning-in candidate areas CPA1 to CPA4 are set to be long in the feeding direction of color paper in four corners of a main image P1. Three-color separation and photometry at the respective points of the main image is performed by a scanner. The respective photometric values in the areas CPA1 to CPA4 are extracted. The average transmissive density of a negative image in the respective areas CPA1 to CPA4 is calculated. By comparing the average transmissive density, the burning-in candidate area having the maximum transmissive density is obtained. The burning-in candidate area is set as an burning-in area, and the pattern image is printed.
