Abstract:

To protect both of the unexposed an exposed silver halide photographic materials from deterioration of sensitivity especially in tropical conditions by using a selenium compound.

At least one of the emulsions of the photographic silver halide material contains one of the selenium compounds represented by formula I in which Ar is an aromatic or heterocyclic aromatic group having an electron withdrawing group at the o-position to the Se; X is a hetero atom except a compound of formula II; the electron withdrawing group adapted to the o- position of Ar is embodied by -CO-Y and -SO2-Y; Y is OH, OR1, NH2, NHR2, or NR1R2; R1 is a 1-4 C alkyl group; R2 is a 1-4 C alkyl or phenyl group; and the suitable hetero atom is N, P, S, and Se, and 1-3 of these atoms can be substituted.
