PURPOSE: To obtain a photomagnetic recording medium which permits recording and reproducing by light, decreases the change of the magnetic characteristics by oxidation, etc. and provides always the specified magnetic characteristics with good reproducibility by coating hexagonal ferrite powder together with a resin binder on a transparent substrate.
CONSTITUTION: This photomagnetic recording medium is formed by coating the hexagonal ferrite powder which is expressed by the formula MxO.n{(Fe1-xMyx)2O3} (where Mx is one kind of any among Ba, Sr, Pb and Ca, n is 5W6, My is at least one kind of metal selected from Ti, Co, Zn, In, Mn, Cu, Ge, Nb, Zr, m=0W0.2) and has 0.01W0.1μm grain size together with the resin binder on a transparent substrate. The hexagonal magnetic powder which is of a hexagonal plate shape and has 0.01W0.1μm grain size when the grain size is expressed by the length of the diagonal lines of the plate plane is suitable. The basic layer constitution is provided with the hexagonal powder layer 2 on the transparent substrate 1 and is further provided with a reflection layer 3 thereon.
