PURPOSE: To form an image having superior tone and light resistance in a short time by adding a specified magenta dye image forming substance.
CONSTITUTION: A photosensitive element contains as a magenta dye image forming substance a compound represented by formula I in which Car is a carrier component releasing a dye or its precursor on being oxidized under an alkaline condition; R1 and R2 are H or 1 to 3C alkyl, the total C number of them is 5 or less, and they may link together to form a morpholine or piperidine ring together with N; X is OH, or its salt, or formula II or III which can be converted into OH by hydrolysis; Z is H, Cl, OCH3, or CH3; m is 0 or 1; Y is formula IV; J is formula V; R6 and R7 are 1 to 8C alkylene or phenylene optionally substituted by Cl, OCH3, or CH3; n is 0 or 1; when n is 1, p is 1, and when n is 0, p is 1 or 0, when p is 1, the total C number is 13 or less, and when p is 0, R7 is a divalent bond.
