PURPOSE: To enable correct phototype operation to be easily performed by an operator by confirming a slant of a letter by a method wherein a confirmatory photocomposer capable of altering repetitively the slant of the letter alloted with a JUST arithmetic unit, and a main photocomposer which fixes phototype information confirmed with the confirmatory photocomposer are established.

CONSTITUTION: When a confirmatory photocomposer 9 receives a confirmatory phototype indication signal 22 capable of indicating repetitively by an operater, the confirmatory photocomposer 9 performs phototype of a new slant a letter at a position on JUST phototyped paper by a confirmatory phototype information signal 21 from a JUST arithmetic unit 3, and sends an image display indication signal 16 to an image controller 5 to perform display of the image. At that time, when a confirmatory phototype state is unsatisfied, the operater inputs the confirmatory phototype indication signal 22 to a confirmatory photocomposer 9, and receives the confirmatory phototype indication signal 22 and the confirmatory phototype information signal 21 again. It performs phototype of the new slant of the letter, transfers the image display signal 16 to the image controller 5, and displays the image on a CRT image 6. Herein, when the confirmatory phototype state is satisfied, a main photocomposer 4 performs main phototype by a main phtotype information signal 14 from the operator 4, sends the image display indication signal 16 to the image controller 5 to display the image.
