PURPOSE: To obtain a phthalocyanine compound which gives an optical recording medium having excellent characteristics in, e.g. reflectance, sensitivity, recording characteristics, resistance to reproduction light, and shelf stability.
CONSTITUTION: A phthalocyanine represented by the formula [wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each 1-20C alkyl, 2-20C alkenyl or 2-20C alkynyl substituted by 0 to 5 halogen atoms, provided that at least one of them is a halogen- substituted group; X is halogen; k, l, m and n are each independently 0 to 3, and o, p, q and r are each independently 0, 1 or 2, except for the case where all of them are 0 at the same time and provided that the sams of k and o, land p, m and q, and n and r are each independently 0 to 4; and Met stands for two hydrogen atoms, a divalent metal atom, a trivalent monosubstituted metal atom, a tetravalent disubstituted metal atom, or an oxy metal atom].
