To provide a simple picking device intended to apply a moderate tension to a weft so as to secure cloth grade, and designed to reduce air consumption so as to also secure picking performance.

This picking device has such a scheme that a weft Y is inserted by the aid of a main nozzle 5 into a warp row opening and picked by setting a plurality of subnozzles 14 in jet motion successively from the picking side to the opposite picking side. In this case, a low-pressure air tank 30 with it pressure set lower than those of air tanks 17a, 17b for the picking subnozzles is connected to picking branched paths 12a-12g as pipelines between specified subnozzles 14 and picking valves 18a-18g via a low-pressure air valve 31, and a control unit 11 is provided to control the on/off operation of a low-pressure air valve 33 so as to feed pressurized air from the low-pressure air tank 30 to the specified subnozzles 14 at a given time from a time point before ending the jet of pressurized air from the picking air tanks 17a, 17b via the subnozzles 14 on the most opposite picking side to beating time point.
