PURPOSE: To avoid the fluctuation of the output signals for the pickup device utilizing the charge coupling element by providing the means to detect the temperature plus the temperature control means to keep the temperature constant within the space to hold the temperature of the charge coupling element under the room temperature.
CONSTITUTION: Charge coupling element 1 is provided within the enclosed space via substrate 5 and cap 7 containing optical window 6 which transmits the light, and heat sink 2 made of the copper block or the like is adhered to element 1. Then temperature detector element 3 composed of thermister or the like is attached to heat sink 2, and also cooling side 4-a of cooling element 4 of the semiconductor made of the Peltier element or the like is adhered to sink 2. Furthermore, temperature detection circuit 10 and cooling element power source 11 are connected to temperature detection element 3 and cooling element 4 each via lead wire 12 to form the feedback loop. Then element 4 is actuated when the temperature detected by element 3 is higher than the fixed level to maintain the temperature of element 1 constant.
