PURPOSE: To enable to make highly accurate picture positioning by searching for the part of point symmetry from two series of positional information of external form of a picture by matching.
CONSTITUTION: When a key word is inputted from a keyboard 4, a corresponding reference figure is retrieved from a file 5. When a collated figure is read by a scanner 6, the collated figure is stored in different area from the area of the reference figure in a picture memory 3. then, positioning process of two figures is made by control of a CPU1. The reference points of positions of the two figures, the centers, are found out, and relative angle of rotation is determined. To calculate the positions of centers, the picture is divided into two, and the series of coordinate of positions of points on the external form is determined and the amount of displacement that maximize the sum of products of two series is found out. This process is made in two divided directions, and positions of centers are calculated from two amounts of displacement obtained. The parallel and rotational shifting of collated figure is made based on the angle of rotation, and superposed on the reference picture.
