Abstract:
PURPOSE: To shorten the expansion processing time by providing a cache memory allowing the quick random access in the preceding stage of a large- capacity and encoded data storage means.
CONSTITUTION: Though plural compressor/expanders 6-1 to 6-n perform the processing in parallel, individual memory areas are not provided to store data encoded by compression. that is compressor/expanders 6-1 to 6-n are provided with FIFOs (first in first out) 9-1 to 9-n as private small-capacity and data temporary storage means respectively. Data is transferred to a cache memory 13 in order from the FIFO where a prescribed quantity of data is stored. For example, when the capacity of each of FIFOs 9-1 to 9-n is 2kB, data is collectively transferred to the cache memory 13 from the FIFO where 1kB data is stored.
