SOLUTION: In the picture display device making an observer view the magnified virtual image of a picture by guiding luminous fluxes from the picture displayed on the display surface 3a of a picture generating means to eyes of the observer through the optical system, plural main light beams perpendicularly emitting with respect to the display surface 3a emit the optical system to cross almost at one point to form a pupil 1, the optical system has four pieces of eccentric curved surface mirrors 2-1-2-4 continuously and successively reflect the main light beams, the first eccentric mirror 2-1 counted from the side of the pupil 1 is an aspherical surface of an ellipsoid of revolution or an aspherical surface based on an ellipsoid of revolution and has a first focus at the position of the pupil 1 and a second eccentric curve surface mirror 2-2 counted from the side of the pupil 1 is a hyperboloid or an aspherical surface based on a hyperboloid and makes the first focus position at the second focus of the first eccentric curved surface mirror.
