Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a macro block bit adjustment system for improvement of the quantization and variable length encoding of a video encoder by encoding a macro block and applying a constraint pattern to the macro block when precedent (n) macro blocks included in a row exceed the limit value of bit rate.
SOLUTION: A quantization unit 673 quantizes the DCT(discrete cosine transform) coefficient sent from a DCT unit and outputs this quantized coefficient to a VLE(variable length encoding unit). A pattern constraint logic 710 is added to the unit 673 to access one or plural programmable constraint patterns 712. It's decided whether the constraint is necessary or not based on the bit rate of a macro block or on a fact whether two precedent macro bits included in a row exceed the limit value of bit rate. Thus, the optimum balance is secured between the bit rate and the picture quality.
