Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prevent deterioration in picture quality when the picture quality is important by generating a timing signal even when a data transfer mode is selected based on the same clock signal to control a data compression transfer means.
CONSTITUTION: A mode setting section 12 selects the compression mode where picture data are recorded in compression or the non-compression mode where the picture data are not compressed but transferred and recorded directly on a memory card. An object picture signal obtained by a CCD 1 is stored in a frame memory 4 via an image pickup process circuit 2 and an A/D converter 3. In the compression mode, the picture data read from the memory 4 are subject to DC transformation by a DCT section 6, compressed by a compander section 7 and recorded on the memory card 9. When high picture quality is desired, the non-compression mode is selected by the setting section 12 and a signal read from the memory 4 is directly recorded on the card 9 via terminals 5A, 8A of selectors 5, 8. Timing matching signals CONT 1, 2 are generated by the same clock signal in the compression/non-compression mode.
