PURPOSE: To eliminate the insufficient strength of a die and a retaining pad without restricting piercing width by cutting a member to be worked while bending the cut piece toward the inside in the transverse direction of a scrap escaping passage.

CONSTITUTION: A member to be worked is pressed to a retaining pad 13 so that the member to be worked is gripped by a die 11 and the pad 13. A punch 10 is descended to cut transversely both ends of the part to be worked by cutting edges 10A for both ends, then the member is cut by lateral cutting edges 10B to form a cut piece 1B'. The punch 10 is further descended to press bending parts 10C to the base part of the piece 1B' and to press the base part, thereby bending the piece 1B' toward the inside in the transverse direction of a scrape escaping hole 12. The punch 10 is further descended to press a final cutting edge 10D to the remaining part of the central part which is not pierced, thereby blanking said part. The piercing is thus completed. The max. size of scrap 1C is made smaller from Y to y.
