PIERCING MILL AND METHOD FOR CHANGING CANNON

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rolling mill to cope with the production of small quantities in many kinds of seamless steel tubes sized from a small diameter to a large diameter by providing a means of turning a cannon holder and making it travel along a pass line so as to automize changing of the cannon.
SOLUTION: The cannon holder 5 kept in a state of holding the cannon 4 is moved from a stand to a prescribed position at the inlet side of a piercing mill, while being supported by an exclusive manipulator, and is lowered so that a guide surface of a turning frame 11 is fitted into a dovetail groove, and subsequently is set free from the supported state. By operating a turning cylinder 15, the turning frame 11 is turned by 90° around a turning shaft 13 as an axis, and in company of which the cannon holder 5 is also turned and located at an admission side of the piercing rolls on a pass line X-X. In order that the cannon 4 is arranged closely to the piercing rolls, a sliding cylinder 16 is operated to shift the cannon holder 5 along the pass line X-X.
