To provide lead-free piezoelectric ceramics having a piezoelectric constant and a mechanical quality factor which are excellent and stable in a wide operating temperature region, and to provide a method for manufacturing the same.
Piezoelectric ceramics include a main component containing a perovskite metal oxide represented by general formula (1): (Ba1-xCax)a(Ti1-yZry)O3 (0.100≤x≤0.145, 0.010≤y≤0.039), a first auxiliary component comprising Mn, and a second auxiliary component containing at least one kind selected from Cu, B and Si, wherein, assuming that the content of Mn to the 1 mol metal oxide is b mol, following inequalities are established: 0.0048≤b≤0.0400, and the content of the second auxiliary component is in the range of ≥0.001 pt.wt and ≤4.000 pts.wt in terms of metals with respect to the 100 pts.wt metal oxide, and the value a in general formula (1) is expressed as follows: 0.9925+b≤a≤1.0025+b.
