Abstract:
To switch an optical signal by blocking an optical path or releasing it from being blocked by displacing a solid magnetic slag by using a piezoelectric element.
Disclosed is an optical switch which blocks the optical path passing through a channel or release it from being blocked by moving the solid slag in the channel. The solid slag is moved by, for example, the piezoelectric element. In an embodiment, the slag is, for example, wetted with liquid such as liquid metal and stuck on a metal contact pad in the channel which can be wetted to form a latch mechanism. The movement of the solid slag can be attenuated to prevent damage.
