PURPOSE: To obtain a feed roller by forming unevenness around the metallic roller using sharp-edged fine dust and coating the resultant surface with a metal layer, thus causing no slip, even in the small contact area of pile yarns and controlling the feed rate of the pile yarn depending on the rotation angle of the roller.

CONSTITUTION: A number of fine hard ceramic particles 13 of sharp-edged unevenness are allowed to distribute on the peripheral surface of a metallic roller 11 to form unevenness 15. Further, the roller 11 is coated with the same quality of a metal layer as that of the roller 11 to give a feed roller causing no release of the ceramic particles and no yarn slip even with slight contact such as in only about 45 - 90° contact angle whereby it can be used as a roller in a field requiring a precise feed control such as in a loop pile tufting machine.
