To obtain a pile yarn having rich water absorbency and quick-drying properties and further shape stability and easy-care properties in combination and used for mats which are laid in places equipped with a water supply such as a kitchen or a washroom, and to provide a method for producing the pile yarn.
The pile yarn for the mats is characterized in that the pile yarn is a plied yarn of a yarn group A obtained by doubling a thermoplastic synthetic fiber multifilament yarn with a cellulosic fiber yarn and a yarn group B composed of the thermoplastic synthetic fiber multifilament yarn, and the twist direction of the primary twist and the final twist is opposite. The method for producing the pile yarn for the mats is characterized by twisting the yarn group A comprising the thermoplastic synthetic fiber multifilament yarn and the cellulosic fiber yarn together with the yarn group B composed of the thermoplastic synthetic fiber multifilament yarn, forming the plied yarn having the final twist in which the yarn group A is integrated with the yarn group B using a twister capable of providing the plied yarn of 100% untwisted primary twist in one step, then heat-setting the plied yarn and setting the twist structure.
