Title:
PISTON COMPRESSION RINGS OF COPPER ALLOYS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2023029947
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
To provide compression rings with high thermal conductivity, good wear resistance and thermal stability.SOLUTION: A piston ring is made of a copper-nickel-silicon-chromium alloy. This material permits a top compression ring of a piston to be moved closer to a piston crown, reducing the crevice volume and reducing the tendency for pre-ignition. Ignition timing advance can be realized by installing the rings and letting an ECU advance the timing as sensors allow, increasing the efficiency. In addition, shorter pistons and longer connecting rods are possible. The shorter pistons reduce the reciprocated mass in the engine, and the longer connecting rods reduce the frictional loss caused by radial forces pushing the piston against a liner. Reducing both the volume and tendency for pre-ignition increase the engine efficiency.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
