Abstract:
To suppress generation of fuel that does not contribute to combustion in an engine having a piston with a top face on which a layer composed of porous alumina is formed while utilizing swing property of the layer.SOLUTION: A piston includes a top face composed of a porous alumina. The top face includes a first region and a second region. The first region includes a part of or all of the region connected to an outer periphery of the top face. The second region is adjacent to the first region. The second region includes a part of or all of the region inside the top face. The porous alumina formed in the second region is thinner than the porous alumina formed in the first region. In a method for manufacturing the piston, a cast piston made of aluminum alloy is first prepared. Then, a casting surface in the first region is removed to expose a material surface. Next, the cast piston is subjected to an anodic oxidation treatment to form a porous alumina in the first and second regions.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
