Title:
PISTON FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH04109067
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a piston excellent in heat resistance and durability and desirable in productivity by cast-covering a top plate, formed of an Al-Ti intermetallic compound, with an Al allay formed at a piston body, and jointing the boundary outer peripheral parts of an Al-Ti intermetallic compound and the Al alloy by welding.

CONSTITUTION: A piston for an internal combustion engine is provided with a cavity 1a recessively formed at the center part of a top plate (camber) 1 molded in an Al-Ti intermetallic compound. A piston body 2 formed of an aluminum alloy (JISAC8A) is molded with the top plate 1 cast-covered inside. The boundary outer peripheral parts of the top plate 1 and the piston body 2 are jointed to each other by welding (3), while an abrasion proof ring (ring carrier) is fittingly mounted to the upper outer periphery of the piston body 2. Heat resistance, abrasion resistance and light weight can be thereby attained, and also cracking and peeling caused by the thermal expansion coefficient difference of a compound member can be prevented.
