Abstract:
To provide a method capable of manufacturing a piston ring at low cost, the piston ring having excellent abrasion resistance and suitable for use under high-temperature and high-load environment.SOLUTION: A manufacturing method of a piston ring comprises (A) preparing a steel material for a piston ring containing at least Cr and C, and also containing a matrix material and hard particles dispersed in the matrix material; and (B) projecting the hard particles from the matrix material by melting the matrix material on the surface of the steel material. The steel material has a Cr content of 7.0 to 9.5 mass% and a C content of 0.7 to 1.2 mass% based on the total mass of the steel material. The hard particles contain at least Cr and C and contain these elements at a higher concentration than the matrix material.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
