To provide a piston ring capable of simultaneously satisfying wear resistance, gas sealing properties, and oil scraping properties, and preventing peeling off of hard coating itself formed on a sliding surface thereof.
In the piston ring comprising a base material having a hollow part formed on an outer circumference surface and the hard coating provided on the hollow part, the hollow part is composed of a first surface extending from one to another of an upper and a lower surface of the base material in parallel with the piston ring outer circumference surface and a second surface toward the piston outer circumference from one end of the first surface in a cross section perpendicular to a radial direction of the piston ring, a section where the hard coating is formed and a section where the base material is exposed exist on the piston ring outer circumference surface by providing the hard coating on the hollow part, and the second surface forming the hollow part and the piston ring outer circumference surface touch with 10-30 angles kept therebetween.
