Title:
PISTON RING
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3255033
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent flexibility of a sliding surface from being damaged by setting the hardness of a DLC coating film on a boundary surface side to a resin base material to be lower than that on the sliding surface side with a cylinder bore in a resin piston ring comprising the resin base material and a diamond-like carbon(DLC) coating film.
SOLUTION: This piston ring 1 comprises a resin base material 2 and a DLC coating film 3, and the engineering plastic can be used for the resin base material 2. The DLC coating film is formed by, for example, a chemical vapor deposition(CVD) method, and the hardness of the DLC coating film 3 is set to be lower from a sliding surface side with a cylinder bore to a boundary surface with the resin in the thickness direction of the film. The gradient in the hardness of the DLC coating film 3 is provided by the method where the plasma energy to be given to the surface of the resin of the base material is smaller in the beginning so that DLC is chemically connected to the resin, and the plasma energy is increased as the DLC coating film 3 becomes thicker.
