PURPOSE: To facilitate manufacturing and improve abrasion resistance and seizure resistance in the high temperature atmosphere by applying heat resistance hard plating including specific weight % of the total of S, C, and N on the surface of a part of a piston ring and forming a nitriding layer on the surface of the other part.
CONSTITUTION: On the surface of a part of a piston ring 1, heat resistance hard Cr plating including 1.0 to 3.0weight% of the total of S, C, and N (4) is applied, and on the surface of the other part, a nitriding layer is formed. In such way, a piston ring to which heat resistance hard Cr plating is applied in the process of heat resistance hard Cr plating to nitriding process can be obtained. In addition, the applying of heat resistance hard Cr plating to the piston ring improves the abrasion resistance and seizure resistance even in the high temperature atmosphere.
