In this piston type compressor 10, a rotary valve 41 is stored in a valve storage chamber 42 of a cylinder block 11. A stopper 50 is provided in the valve storage chamber 42. The stopper 50 is provided with the travel regulating part 58 for regulating travel possible amount of the rotary shaft in the axial direction to predetermined amount by slide-contact of the slide-contact part 47 provided in a shaft end part of the rotary valve 41. All the slide-contact faces of the slide-contact part 47 and the travel regulating part 58 are formed into a tapered shape.
