To provide a sealing device of a piston type cylinder applying water as a working medium, being smooth under high pressure, for example, 14 MPa, having sufficient durability, and properly usable for sealing a sliding hydraulic cylinder.
This sealing device 1 for the piston type cylinder 5 has a piston 4a and a piston rod 4b stored in the cylinder 3, and applies the water as the working medium. This sealing device 1 comprises the combination of a first sealing member 6 composed of a seal member 11 and a supporting member 12 composed of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene, and mounted on an outer face of the piston 4a, a second sealing member 7 composed of a seal member 11 and a supporting member 12 composed of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene and mounted on an inner face 3a of the cylinder 3, a third sealing member 8 as a rubber packing having a lip 8a provided with a projecting portion 8b kept into contact with an outer face of the piston rod 4b and mounted on the inner face 3a of the cylinder 3, and a fourth sealing member 9 mounted on the inner face 3a of the cylinder 3 in a state of being kept into contact with the outer face of the piston rod 4b for preventing intrusion of dusts.
