To prevent an occurrence of contamination of a pivot bearing used for a head portion of HDD and also improve a damping effect and mechanical accuracy.
The pivot bearing of HDD is characterized to fit a magnet 2 on the periphery of the pivot bearing 1 retained inside a bearing housing 3 and to maintain magnetic fluid 7 in a gap 4 between the periphery of the magnet 2 and an inner wall of the bearing housing 3. The magnet can improve a magnetic-flux density, and can enhance holding force of the magnetic fluid by dividing an intervened yoke. Conductive magnetic fluid can also used as magnetic fluid. A blot of magnetic fluid is prevented by intervening volatile oil between the pivot bearing and bearing housing. A leak of magnetic flux is also prevented by covering a magnetic body on the periphery of the bearing housing.
