To provide a plain tile 10 for zigzag roofing, which can present a small-cant feeling and an upscale image, and which can prevent intrusion of rainwater.
An exposed portion 10a of a tile body comprises two flat portions different in width, that is, a crosspiece-side flat portion 11 and an insertion-side flat portion 12, so as to present the small-cant feeling such that two large and small types of small plain tiles are laid. A step 13 is formed in a boundary between both the flat portions 11 and 12 by positioning the insertion-side flat portion 12 lower than the crosspiece-side flat portion 11; a step 14 is formed at the side edge of the head side 10c of the insertion-side flat portion 12; and the upscale image is presented by a shade and a shadow, which are brought about the two steps 13 and 14. The rainwater running on the crosspiece-side flat portion 11 flows into the insertion-side flat portion 12 lower than the crosspiece-side flat portion 11; and the influent rainwater flows down to the step 14 at the edge of the tile head side 10c of the insertion-side flat portion 12. The rainwater flowing down is splashed back from a bottom surface 14b of the step 14, so as to flow down to the lower plain tile 10. Consequently, the rainwater can hardly intrude to the backside of the tile 10.
