Abstract:

To provide a planar light source device capable of widening a dimming range and a liquid crystal display using the same.

The planar light source device is provided with a light source part (a cold-cathode tube 3), a light guide part (a light guide plate 1) guiding light from the light source part (the cold-cathode tube 3) to irradiate in plane, and a reflecting member 4 reflecting light from the light source part (the cold-cathode tube 3) and letting it incident on the light guide part (the light guide plate 1). The reflecting member 4 is provided with reflecting light volume control means 6, 7 and 8 capable of changing reflecting light volumes.
