To provide a planar light source device and a transmission display equipped with a light-control sheet for alleviating a luminance peak at unwanted angles, eliminating light and dark spots on a transmission display part, and heightening frontal luminance.
The planar light source device 10 includes a planar light source 15 including a plurality of arc tubes 15a (bar light sources) arranged in parallel with each other, a first light control sheet 13 fitted at a light-irradiating side of the planar light source 15 and equipped with a sheet face 13s arranged in parallel with the planar light source 15, a second light control sheet 14 fitted at a light-irradiating side of the first light control sheet 13 and equipped with a sheet face 14s arranged in parallel with the first light control sheet 13, a reflecting plate 16 fitted at a side opposite to the light-irradiating side of the planar light source 15 for reflecting light, and a polarization separation sheet 11 fitted between the second light control sheet 14 and an LCD panel 17 for heightening luminance of light irradiated on a rear face of the LCD panel 17 without narrowing a field angle of the same 17.
