Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a plane wave-making water tank in which a ratio of an effective area (effective region) to a size of the tank can be increased and which has no disorder of a wave field due to a reflected wave.
CONSTITUTION: The plane wave-making water tank 10 comprises a wave-making source 12 for generating an arbitrary wave from a plurality of directions in such a manner that the source is so arranged in the tank as to surround a wave field formed out of effective waves generated from itself, and a wave- eliminating unit 13 arranged over an entire periphery of the tank. The source 12 has a substantially U-shaped communicating tube communicating with a bottom of the tank and a wave-making mechanism provided at an end of the tube to apply a reciprocating flow to the water in the tube and provided at a lower position than a water level of the tank.
