To provide a planographic printing plate precursor that can maintain sensitivity in an exposed part and plate ware at a high level while keeping enough hydrophilicity to maintain contamination resistance in an unexposed part, and to provide a method for making a planographic printing plate.
The planographic printing plate precursor has a basecoat layer and an image recording layer, in this order on a support, wherein the basecoat layer contains: (A) a compound having an ethylenically unsaturated bond and a functional group interacting with the support surface and having a mass average molecular weight in the range from 100 to 10,000; and (B) a polymer compound having an ethylenically unsaturated bond and a functional group and a hydrophilic functional group interacting with the support surface and having a mass average molecular weight ranging from 10,000 to 500,000. The method for making a planographic printing plate is carried out by using the printing plate precursor.
