To provide a plasma jet ignition device in which the occurrence of overcurrent is prevented in a large current pulse circuit for supplying a plasma jet energy generated by a large current pulse from an energy storage capacitor to a discharging part of a plasma ignition plug.
A charging circuit 15 is constituted by connecting a resonance coil 13, a switching element 12a, a shunt resistance 14 and the energy storage capacitor 11 to an output of a DC/DC converter 10 in series, the large current pulse circuit 3 having a high-voltage pulse circuit 2 and the charging circuit 15 is provided, the charging of the energy storage capacitor 11 is performed by utilizing LC resonance in the large current pulse circuit 3 and an energy is supplied to the discharging part 1a from the energy storage capacitor 11 with the start of the discharging on the discharging part 1a. When a short-circuit detection circuit 4 detects the overcurrent by means of a comparator 30 based on a current value in the charging circuit 15 detected by the shunt resistance 14, the short-circuit detection circuit 4 turns off an ON command to the switching element 12a to protect the large current pulse circuit 3.
