Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma melting furnace which can get an equal and high quality of granulated slug by preventing the mixing of incomplete melted matter into the molten slug overflowing from a furnace without dropping the melting treatment capacity, and its operation method.
SOLUTION: This plasma melting furnace performs plasma arc discharge between the main electrode 4 suspended from the furnace top 1b and a start electrode 5c at operation start of a furnace 1, and between the main electrode 4 and a furnace-bottom electrode provided at the bottom 1c of the furnace after start of operation. The interior of the furnace 1 is kept in reductive atmosphere by jetting out inert gas C from the tip of the main electrode 4 and the start electrode 5. This compulsively pushes the incomplete molten matter A floating on the surface of fused slug into molten slug B by lowering the start electrode 5 to the position where the tip sinks into the molten slug B within the furnace 1.
