To satisfy a low NA necessary for fast communication and to decrease optical loss due to bending by forming a sheath of a two-layer structure and using a specified resin to form the second sheath layer.
The wire consists of a core 1 of polymethylmethacrylate resin and sheath 2, 3 of a two-layer structure comprising a material having lower refractive index than the core resin. In this case, when the refractive index is measured at 20°C for Na D-line, the second sheath resin has a lower refractive index than that of the first sheath resin. The second sheath resin consists of a ternary copolymer of vinylidenefluoride, tetrafluoroethylene and hexafluoropropene, or the like having 30 to 90 mol.% vinylidenefluoride component, 0 to 55 mol.% tetrafluoroethylene component and 8 to 25 mol.% hexafluoropropene component, and having 1.350 to 1.380 refractive index, and 10 to 55 Shore-D hardness at 23°C. The resin shows 5 g/10 min to 100 g/10 min melt flow index (at 230°C under 3.8 kg load, with an orifice of 2 mm diameter and 8 mm length).
