PURPOSE: To form a plate group for a storage battery, with which the pressure distribution on the plate group can be uniformalized, which has excellent high rate electric-discharging characteristic, and by which the cycle life can be drasti cally improved.

CONSTITUTION: A positive electrode plate 2, a negative electrode plate 3, and a retainer 4 are alternately superimposed on each other so that the positive electrode plate 2 and the negative electrode plate 3 are not brought into contact with each other. The lower part of each positive electrode plate 2 is wound into U-shape by the retainer 4, and the lug parts 2a of respective positive electrode plates 2 are mutually connected by a positive electrode strap 5, while lug parts 3a of respective negative electrode plates 3 are mutually connected by a negative electrode strap 6. The negative electrode plates 3 on both ends of a superimposed body of the positive electrode plate 2, the negative electrode plate 3 and the retainer 4, in the superimposing direction, are connected together at their lower parts, by a connector 7.
