Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst which avoids the formation of a laminar interfacial layer by disturbing the flow of exhaust gas circulating between catalysts by first, applying a catalytic matter to a metal sheet base, then cutting the base to a specified size, and forming a protruding strip of a specified shape with a specified angle to the lateral edge.
CONSTITUTION: A catalytic matter 2 is applied to a base l like a porous metal sheet or a plate-like metal net, e.g. an expanding metal, using a pair of upper and lower application rolls 3, 3A. Next, a contact plate 5 is cut to a developed size using cutters 8, 8A so that the plate 5 is of the specified shape and size, when corrugating the contact plate 5 in a specified corrugation size. In addition, the contact plate 5 is positioned before forming rolls 10, 10a, using a positioning device 9 so that a corrugation ridge to be formed has a specified angle to the flow of gas. Further, a ridge 12 is formed by aligning a pair of forming rolls 10, 10A which have a corrugated form for creating the ridge 12 and become engaged with each other. Thus a plate-like catalyst can be formed.
