To provide a plate wave sensor having directionality and capable of grasping the internal damage of a thin plate structure and the occurring position of the impact load from outside by non-destructive inspection using a small arranging number of the sensors.
The plate wave sensor, which comprises a piezoelectric material for detecting the elastic wave propagating through a plate, is arranged on the surface of the plate, formed into a shape satisfying the relation of L/W≥3.5 or W/L≥3.5 and L/t≥1 (wherein L is the length in the longitudinal direction of the sensor, W is the length in the lateral direction of the sensor orthogonal to the longitudinal direction on a plane and t is the length in the thickness direction of the sensor crossing the longitudinal and lateral directions at a right angle) and characterized in that the angle formed by the longitudinal direction and the advance direction of the elastic wave is 0 to below 45°. An element which keeps the plate wave sensors arranged in an array form is also disclosed.
