After a braking device is assembled, the operating of a brake pedal is started (step 100). In a process the brake pedal is operated, a point where hydraulic pressure in a master cylinder communicating with the brake pedal exceeds the specified value is set as an effective area starting point (steps 104 and 106). Then, a play clearance of the brake pedal is adjusted so as to make a position where a pedal stroke is slightly restored from this effective area starting point, come to a new zero position (step 112).
