PURPOSE: To make a plural-channel encoder compact by constituting the encoder so that it can make outputs of plural channesl of two channels or more by installing plural magnetic tracks to either one or both of the outer peripheral surface and side face of a magnetic drum.
CONSTITUTION: To the outer peripheral surface and bottom face which is one side face of a magnetic drum 5-b fitted to the shaft of a motor 4, magnetic materials O and D related to magnetic tracks are applied and the outer peripheral surface and bottom surface are respectively magnetized in accordance with two kinds of different resolutions. By respectively arranging magnetic sensors 1-a and 1-b corresponding to each resolution to the outer peripheral surface and bottom surface of the magnetic drum 5-b, two kinds of 2-phase incremental outputs are obtained from waveform shaping circuits 2 and 2.
