To minimize power consumption due to the power loss by cutting or transmitting the reflection of the carrier frequency signal transmitted from a transmission means and accordingly designating a pointing device including a retransmission means which generates a necessary code to make it perform the superimposed reflection to the carrier frequency signal.

A handset remote controller 50 reflects the infrared rays sent from a main body 40 via a reflector part. Thus, a microcomputer 57-1 performs on/off control of an LCD via an LCD control part 57-2 to cut or transmit the reflection of the infrared rays and to generate a code showing the corresponding function. The infrared ray receiving sensors 21, 21-1 to 21-3 of the main body 40 receive the infrared rays where the carrier signals reflected via the LCD are superposed on the code signals when the LCD of the controller 50 is set in a transmitting state. Therefore, the controller 50 is just required to control only the drive of the LCD.
