To solve the problem that a user misunderstands as a failure when a pointer is phase-shifted in an electronic time piece provided with a power saving function such as stoppage of the pointer.
'L' is output to a photo detection signal S18 when a photodetecting circuit 18 detects a dark condition, and a dark time counter 19 starts a time counting operation. The 'L' is output to a needle position converting signal S190 for continuing the dark condition for two hours to stop needle position conversion in a needle position converting circuit A8 and a needle position converting circuit B7. When the dark condition is continued, the counter 19 outputs 'H' to the converting signal S19 in every one hour to needle-handle an hour hand meter 28C by one hour through a converter driving circuit B25. The second hand 28a and the minute hand 28b continues the stopped condition in the position as they are left without being handled, because they are consistent with the last positions, after one hour.
