PURPOSE: To suppress the input of a pointing device to the minimum and to quickly and exactly the operation by limiting a movable/displayable area of a cursor, and executing a discrete movement between movable areas of the cursor.

CONSTITUTION: In the case of moving pointing cursors 2a - 2b from the right upper part to the left lower part along a dotted line, the cursor 2a existing in a movable area 3a of the right upper part moves continuously extending from the cursor 2a to a cursor 2e by an input from a pointing device. In such a state, furthermore, in the case an input by the pointing device goes in, it goes over the movable area 3a, therefore, a coordinate value is updated to the nearest movable area 3c in the moving direction of the cursor 2e, and the cursor 2e jumps to a cursor 2f. By such an operation, the movement between a window and an icon of the pointing cursor is executed instantaneously, therefore, the moving distance is shortened and the operability is improved.
