To accurately measure a pulse waveform of light to be measured even in the case the state of polarization of the light to be measured is fluctuated.
The device includes a sampling light source 10 which generates a pulse train of sampling light b1 having a single polarized plane and a pulse width shorter than that of the light to be measured (a), a polarization beam splitter 11 which separates the output sampling light and the light to be measured into two light beams with polarized planes different from each other through an angle of 90 degrees, which makes two pairs of composite beams of the sampling light and the light to be measured being separated previously and having polarized planes different from each other through the angle of 90 degrees, and which outputs them into different light passages respectively, a pair of non-linear optical materials 1a, 1b which generate a correlation signal as frequency added light between the sampling light and the light to be measured being output into each light passage and having polarized planes different from each other through the angle of 90 degrees, a pair of photodetectors 7a, 7b which convert the output frequency added light into an electric signal, and a signal processing section 12 which adds each output electric signal, processes the added electrical signal and displays the pulse waveform.
