Title:
POLARIZED LIGHT RADIATING SYSTEM AND PROJECTION DISPLAY DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3666503
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suggest a polarized light radiating system suitable as an illuminating system of a projection display device, etc. of which the temperature change is large.
SOLUTION: The polarized light radiating system (400) has a light source (401); an integrator optical system (403); polarization separation means (402) for separating a polarized light beam emitted from the light source into two polarized light beams (S, P) of which the polarizing directions are orthogonally crossing and performing directional separation at an angle smaller than 90 degrees; and a polarization conversion means (446) for aligning the polarizing directions of the two polarized light beams. The polarization separation means (402) is arranged on any one of the incident side and the emitting side of a first lens plate (441) of the integrator optical system. As the polarization separation means (402), a prism beam splitter equipped with a polarization separation membrane (426) consisting of thermally stable dielectric multi-layer film is adopted. The polarized light radiating system is suitable as the illuminating system of the projection display device with a liquid crystal light bulb since most of the polarized light can be utilized and the polarized light beams with even brightness can be emitted by aligning the polarizing direction of the polarized light beams.
