To provide a polarizer without requiring an allignment layer, eliminating loss of cutting end after cutting out a polarizer since an absorbing axis of the polarizer can be freely set, suitable to upsizing and thickness reduction of a liquid crystal display, and to provide its manufacturing method and the liquid crystal display device using the polarizer.
This polarizer is formed by laminating, on a base material, hardened liquid crystal layers containing an oriented dichroic coloring matter with the absorbing axis freely settable in any direction. This polarizer is formed from a dimer of a high polymer liquid crystal in which the hardened liquid crystal layer has an optical dimerized group inside a molecule. The polarizer is manufactured by thinly filming a high polymer liquid crystal composition formed by mixing the dichroic coloring matter on the high polymer liquid crystal having the optical dimerized group inside the molecule, followed by irradiation of linear polarized light on the high polymer thin film.
