Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protective film having a low moisture permeability and good lubricity. SOLUTION: The protective film is a polarizer protective film disposed on one face or both faces of a polarizer film and has (1) a base film layer having <=500 g/(m<2> .24 hr) moisture permeability at 70 deg.C and 90% RH and (2) an organic compound layer containing fine particles disposed on at least one face of the base film layer. The fine particles are preferably those of one or more selected from silicon dioxide, zirconium oxide and a silicone resin and the principal component of the organic compound layer is preferably a cellulose ester. The base film layer is preferably a film produced through a working step at >=200 deg.C and is further preferably an extruded film. Preferably 0-20 nm phase contrast value, >=85% light transmittance and <=2% haze are ensured as optical characteristics.
